First of all, it was nice to be able to speak to Professor Bolger about some sylabys changes. I apreciate that. It was also nice to meet my small group. This was probably my favorite part of class, so if you are not in my small group I’m sorry but you missed out.
The greatest challenge of class was working out a possible case study for our final project. I chose my youth group from the Covina Vineyard Church. I took over leadership of the youth group 3 months ago and since then, I have been struggling with how to (with God’s help) create an environment that will foster spiritual growth leading toward maturity in faith. This seems like an impossible task for high schoolers, and I have observed from personal experience the common fall back from faith when struggles or family issues or the independence of college force a young believer to question their faith. I guess my basic question is this: is there something we could be doing as a youth group to establish a mature faith that will not be tossed back and forth like the waves of the sea? Secondly, I am interested in pushing my students toward engaging the community with their faith and in service, but this seems to be a secondary issue in my mind… maybe it shouldn’t be.
